What is Montessori?

Dr. Maria Montessori created a hands-on curriculum for young children through learning materials specific to one concept or skill. Today there are thousands of Montessori schools throughout the US and the world.

What is Montessori Teacher Preparation of Washington?

MTP of WA is a Montessori certification program for teaching children ages 2 ½ to 6 years. Students learn about Montessori’s philosophy of education as well as current child development principles. It is affiliated with the certifying organization, The International Association of Progressive Montessori (IAPM).

What are the prerequisites for enrolling in the course?

Candidates must have at least two years of college education, or two years’ experience working daily with young children in a classroom.

What must the student do to complete IAPM certification?

Students must successfully complete the academic course”info””WhatStudents and the internshipinfoWhat is the teaching internship?After completing one area of learning, students may begin an internship in an approved Montessori school. The 720-hour internship gives the student teacher an opportunity to put the Montessori philosophy into practice with children while under the supervision of a certified teacher. The internship is one-half day for ten months. All interning teachers are required to provide proof of that you don't have TB. within a three-year period.

How do I enroll?

  1. Submit the following items to MTP of WA office
    (23807 – 98th Ave. S. Kent, WA 98031):

    • Completed Registration Form [PDF]
    • Three written personal references
    • Transcripts (or diploma)
    • Personal essay
    • Two pictures
    • Registration fee of $100
  2. For international students:
    • All the above documents
    • Completed International Student Application Form (ISAF) [PDF]
    • I-20 fee of $100
    • Bank documents that show a minimum balance of $15,000 for one year
    • A copy of passport and visa

What is included in the academic course?

Students will:

  • Observe a variety of Montessori schools
  • Learn the use of Montessori materials in eight areas of learning
  • Prepare a child study
  • Create three learning projects
  • Compile ten curriculum albums for all areas
  • Compare the public school curriculum with Montessori education
  • Prepare weekly plans for group activities in the Montessori classroom

What is the teaching internship?

  • I-20 Processing Fee $100.00 (due with application for all
    international students)
  • Materials’ Fee $150.00
  • Student Organizational Fee $155.00
  • Books (approximate cost) $100.00
  • Tuition $4,500.00(Resident), $5,505.00 (International student)
    (Remaining tuition and fees are due upon registration.)

What other fees are due?

  • Internship Fee: One month before the internship begins – $500.00
  • IAPM Certification Fee: Upon application-$100.00
