Frequently Asked Questions

MONTESSORI PLUS SCHOOL

Q: Why should I choose Montessori Plus School for my child?

At Montessori Plus School, we focus on three key principles:

  1. We treat our children with the utmost respect,
  2. We provide safe and well-prepared environment, and
  3. We commit ourselves to the development of the “whole” child: spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and physical.

These principles, engrained in our daily efforts, allow our schools to be the most reliable, learning, and friendly place for our children.

Q: What is it like at Montessori Plus School classrooms?

A: Both of our schools, in downtown Kent and the East Hill, give the child a special “prepared environment” in which s/he can teacher herself. Each of our four classrooms contains more than twenty shelves of learning materials, or work, for the children to choose and with which to learn. Our children in their mixed-age classrooms work and play together as a family, in a cooperative and non-competitive environment.

Q: What are the learning outcomes of Montessori Plus School?

A: When children begin at 2 1/2 and 3 years of age at Montessori Plus School, they develop qualities of enthusiasm for learning, love of work, concern for others, concentration, a drive toward excellence, orderliness, and a joy of learning. It is inspiring for us to see most of the 4 and 5 year olds casually reading to each other, confident in the knowledge that they taught themselves to read! Because of their self-discipline and independence, children who have been in our schools for the full 3-years span adjust readily to traditional elementary classrooms.

MONTESSORI TEACHER PREPARATION of WASHINGTON

Q: Why Montessori Teacher Preparation of WA?

A: Mr. and Mrs. McClurkin continue to share their forty years of knowledge in Montessori education not only with their current training classes but with the interning teachers in Montessori Plus School and other internship schools. Teachers love to come to Mrs. McClurkin’s office and ask her, “What do you think of this new work?” or “How can I sensorialize this concept to make it easy for children to understand?” Because of the on-going support of teachers and creation of new ideas for the classrooms, Montessori Plus School teachers enjoy their work and value each year they are with the school.

If you’re interested in establishing your own Montessori classroom, MTP of WA provides information and limited guidance¬†to help you get started. For more information, please contact us at mtp@montessoriplus.org.
