Fall 2008 Course
August 22, 2009 – May 29, 2010

Montessori training classes are held in Kent, WA, on Tuesday evenings, 5 to 9 p.m. and two Saturdays per month.  Week-night classes in Korean may be taken in Snohomish or Federal Way in place of the Kent classes, with permission from the Director, Sharlet McClurkin.

Persons on student visas are required to be in class for 12 hours per week, (four hours of weekly class and fourteen hours per month in Saturday classes).  In order to meet the twelve hour per week requirements for students on visas, they must attend an additional four hours per week by taking one of these three options:

  1. Attending Montessori English as a Second Language class, 4 hours per week, in Kent, WA.  This class prepares students to speak in English to children and parents during the Montessori internship.  For further information on MESL, email Sharron Reece at docneon1@comcast.com.  Students may register per quarter for these 10-week classes, until their English is sufficient for an internship.  An additional tuition is required.
  2. Or taking an ESL class from another college or institute for four hours per week.
  3. Or observing and preparing a 4-hour study of children per week at Montessori Plus School in Kent, or at another approved school, at no cost to the student.

Excellent attendance and completion of homework is required of students on visas, as well as U.S. students.

MTP of WA is authorized under Federal law to enroll non-immigrant alien students.

Certification by the Montessori Institute of America will be awarded to all graduates of the entire program.

  • Certificate of attendance at the last day of class.
  • Academic certificate after all the academic course work of 34 written assignments and 10 albums has been completed.
  • MTP of WA and MIA teaching certificates will be awarded after all course work and internship requirements have been met.
  • Prerequisite:  Two years of college or two years' experience with children in a pre-school setting

To complete the MIA certification a 720 hour internship must be completed in an approved internship school under the supervision of a certified Montessori teacher.  Limited internships in the U.S. are available on a first-come, first-served basis.  New international schools may also be approved by MIA.

For certification, three field visits by a Field Supervisor must be completed.

I-20 forms from MTP of WA are available to qualified students.  Write for an International Student Application or download the ISA to qualify for I-20's which will assist you in receiving a student visa to the U.S.  Students may be able to extend their visas to complete a six to nine month internship in the U.S.

Adobe Acrobat Reader is required to print the registration form. If you don't have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download a free copy of the program . Then download the ISA application packet to your computer. You will be prompted to load the file to your computer.

Course work for Montessori training may be completed in languages other than English.  All classes are in English, although Chinese and/or Korean interpreters are available upon request.  The additional cost will be divided among all students needing interpretation and will be paid directly to him/her.

The office administrator will assist students in securing shared, economical housing.
