How Montessori Training Has Affected My Life

Return to On-site Courses

By Erin Thomas
Yakima, WA

I have thought a great deal about how Montessori training affected my life, and what it has meant to me. I have told many people that the training is life-changing and helps to create a whole new perspective of a child's learning process. When I was first introduced to the concept of Montessori classrooms, I loved the experiences and activities my niece and nephew shared with me. At that time, I really thought that it was the activities that made the Montessori Method of teaching so successful. When I chose to take the training for myself, I found that it was the philosophy behind the activities that made the Montessori Method so successful. I learned to trust and follow the child rather than rely on my own teaching agenda; to observe what area of learning the child is ready for than to enforce my will upon them. The Montessori training expanded and refined my perspective, and sparked a new personal interest in all things psychological, and in the physiological development of the brain.
