Montessori Teacher Preparation of Washington has provided training for adults since 1973, under the umbrella of the Montessori Institute of America. Sharlet and Donald McClurkin are known throughout the world as trainers with more than thirty years of experience in imparting the Montessori philosophy in an inspiring and professional manner, both in the U.S. and around the world. They can help YOU gain the “change of heart” necessary to truly understand Montessori’s ideas for young children.
DON’T SETTLE FOR LESS! Invest your time and finances in a course that provides you with complete training in all areas, including a supervised internship, and that gives you a valid certificate from a national organization. Mrs. McClurkin has worked in Montessori education since 1971 and as a MIA trainer since 1973. She invites people who are interested in knowing about Montessori training courses, and opportunities to teach worldwide, to email her at mtp@montessoriplus.org for a recommendation for possible courses and for job opportunities worldwide. Mrs. McClurkin reminds prospective students that becoming a Montessori teacher demands a change of life’s values, and that such a change does not come by reading other people’s printed manuals.” We provide several options for taking the MTP courses:
Upon successful completion of the academic course and a nine month period of internship, the teacher candidate may apply for certification from the Montessori Institute of America (MIA). Persons of all faiths, races, nationalities and creeds are welcomed equally to the MTP course. Montessori teaching candidates must have at least two years of college education, or two years' experience working daily with young children in a classroom, or a combination of the two. Candidates for the elementary training program (Level 6-9 years) must have a Bachelor's Degree and certification as a Montessori teacher for Level 2 1/2 - 6 years.
Montessori Teacher Preparation of Washington in Kent, WA, is now the largest training program in the Northwest. MTP has four concurrent classes, totaling more than 100 students. Over forty interns are serving in schools in the greater Seattle area. MTP of WA is approved to grant I-20's to qualified students. In 2007 MTP hosted students from Korea, China, Mongolia, Japan, India, Turkey, Taiwan, the Philippines and Sri Lanka in both the 10-month and summer courses. This summer's 6.5 week program will begin on June 16, 2008 in Kent, WA. MTP is also currently conducting classes in the Philippines, Sri Lanka and China. Sharlet J. McClurkin, Director |
